The best of Des Moines for retirement living

Moving to an Immanuel community is an investment in a vibrant community

Copper Shores Village, an Immanuel community located at 1500 Edgewater Drive in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, was recently named the “Best of Des Moines” in the Retirement Living category. Tena Nelson, a resident of Copper Shores Village for over four years, nominated the community for the award because she believes her community is the best.

“I chose to nominate Copper Shores Village for the “Best of Des Moines” because I love living here,” Nelson said. “It’s the hometown atmosphere. It’s a palpable thing you feel when you walk in the front door.”

Nelson and her husband moved to Copper Shores Village for its beautiful property. “We chose to move to this community because we like living in this area,” she said. “My husband’s health was starting to decline and I knew I would need assistance with caring for him. I just couldn’t do everything. Since moving, I don’t have to worry about maintenance and my stress level has lessened considerably.”

Aside from assistance, the community of people at Copper Shores Village is what makes it great. “You’re never lacking something to do here,” Nelson said. “There are activities, outings, games, whatever – and there’s always somebody sitting around to chat with. The view is awesome, too. If you want to exercise and walk around the lake, you just go out the back door, and you are right there.”

Life at Copper Shores Village

The community sits atop a hill overlooking Copper Creek Lake. Residents have access to the 42.5-acre lake and miles of walking and biking paths. Local stores, coffee shops and many beautiful neighborhoods also surround the campus.

Copper Shores Village offers a variety of spacious apartments with up to 1,089 square feet. Floor plans feature one and two bedrooms, full kitchens and kitchenettes, large walk-in closets, in-unit washers and dryers, and windows overlooking Copper Creek Lake.

Lifestyle activities offered in community spaces allow residents to make new friends and feel at home. All utilities, maintenance, meals, campus amenities, and grounds upkeep are all included in monthly fees.

The Copper Shores Village staff goes above and beyond for residents. Residents enjoy dining, health and wellness programs and education, daily life enrichment activities, pastoral care, community social events and more.

The staff proudly serve local seniors who have grown up, raised families, started businesses, and lived in Des Moines.
