Zhuhai plans to invest a total of RMB 500 million (MOP 562 million or US$70 million) to construct an artificial island with an integrated marine park.
The neighbouring city’s Natural Resources Bureau has approved the application for building the “Jiuzhou Floating Island,” which will be Zhuhai’s first integrated marine tourism project.
According to the plan, the project will include an ocean park, an underwater marine park, marine science education facilities, and an ecological aquaculture system.
The “Jiuzhou Floating Island” project is invested in and constructed by Zhuhai Jiuzhou Holdings Group Co., Ltd., a state-owned enterprise that operates in the tourism and MICE business, real estate development, and transportation sectors in the neighboring city.
The artificial island will be located near Guishan Town and will cover a planned sea area of 50 hectares, with boats connecting it to the land.
Zhuhai authorities said that the project marks “a significant step” in the development of the city’s integrated marine tourism and marine economy.
