Eugenio Suarez has emerged as the short-term addition the Yankees need, and their window to buy is closing fast.

ESPN insiders Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel strongly suggest there’s a 90 percent chance Suarez gets traded before the deadline. He’s expendable even if the Diamondbacks do not have a fire sale.

Hitting 33 home runs in a contract year this season, he trails only Cal Raleigh and Aaron Judge in baseball power production. His wRC+ and isolated power metrics are near career highs, proving he’s still an elite bat. Even at age 34, Suárez remains an “acceptable defender at third base,” per their analysis.

For the Yankees, Suárez solves their third-base question in a heartbeat.

While his defense is down slightly, it’s serviceable, and the lineup boost is clear. More importantly, Arizona has Jordan Lawlar tearing it up in Triple-A, making this a perfect opportunity to move Suarez—even if they keep other free agents.

New York fits the bill perfectly. Passan and McDaniel list them alongside Detroit, the Chicago Cubs and Seattle as the “best fits” for Suárez, if the Diamondbacks decide to move him. Both the Tigers and Mariners had Suarez and traded him away in the past.

Suarez has said he’d like to remain in Arizona, but he also said he’d try to help the Yankees win a World Series if they trade for him.

If Cashman can swing a deal for Suarez, the Yankees not only fill a hole at the hot corner, they also add a power bat hitting at its peak right now.

If the Yankees want to hit home runs and plug a hole in crunch time, Suarez is the guy to get.
