When does the stock market close for Christmas? Here are the hours

We’re just days away from Christmas. Stock markets will be closed on Thursday, but what about Christmas Eve, or the Friday after the holiday?

The New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will close at 1 p.m. ET Wednesday, Dec. 24, and reopen the normal times on Friday morning after the holiday.

After Thursday, the stock market schedule will be business as usual until the markets close early again on New Year’s Eve and remain closed Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

Here’s what to know.

The New York Stock Exchange will open at normal hours but will close at 1 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Dec. 24.

NYSE American Equities, NYSE Arca Equities, NYSE National, and NYSE Texas late trading sessions will close at 5 p.m.

Nasdaq will open for normal trading hours but will close at 1 p.m. Wednesday.

The U.S. bond market will close at 2 p.m. ET Wednesday, according to the Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and will remain closed through Christmas.

Over-the-counter trading, which is done without an exchange, will close at 1 p.m. ET on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and remain closed until normal opening hours Friday.

U.S. stock markets will be closed on the following days in 2025:

  • Wednesday, Dec. 24: Markets close at 1 p.m. ET

  • Christmas: Closed

  • Wednesday, Dec. 31: Markets close at 1 p.m. ET

  • Thursday, Jan. 1: Closed

The holiday schedules for overseas trading are:

  • London Stock Exchange:

    • Wednesday, Dec. 24: Markets start closing at 12:30 p.m. London time, or 7:30 a.m. ET

    • Christmas Day: Closed

    • Thursday, Dec. 26: Closed for Boxing Day

    • Wednesday, Dec. 31: Markets start closing at 12:30 London time, or 7:30 a.m. EST

    • Thursday, Jan. 1: Closed for New Year’s Day

  • EuroNext:

    • Thursday, Dec. 24: Half trading day for Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Lisbon and Paris, closed in Milan and Oslo.

    • Friday, Christmas Day: Closed for all markets

    • Friday, Dec. 26: Closed for Boxing Day/St. Stephen’s Day

    • Wednesday, Dec. 31: Half trading day for Amsterdam, Brussels, Dublin, Lisbon and Paris, closed in Milan and Oslo.

    • Wednesday, Jan, 1: Closed for New Year’s Day

  • Hong Kong Stock Exchange:

    • Wednesday, Dec. 24: No afternoon and after-hours trading session for Non-Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts

    • Thursday, Dec. 25: Market closed. No after-hours trading session for Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts – all MSCI Futures

    • Friday, Dec. 26: Hong Kong Market is closed the first weekday after Christmas Day

    • Tuesday. Dec. 31: No afternoon or after-hours trading session for Non-Holiday Trading Exchange Contracts

    • Wednesday, Jan, 1: Closed for New Year’s Day

  • Shanghai Stock Exchange will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1.

  • Tokyo Stock Exchange will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, and Thursday, Jan. 1.
