Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: The Sensex slipped 77 points to settle at 81,374, while the Nifty closed down 34 points at 24,717. Despite the weakness in largecaps, the broader market outperformed yet again, with the Nifty Midcap index gaining 154 points to end at 55,903, a 600-point rebound from intraday lows. The Nifty Bank index rose 356 points to 57,776, inching closer to its record high.

Sensex Today | Stock Market Highlights: After a sluggish start, the Indian equity market staged a smart recovery in the second half of Monday’s session, closing near the day’s high. The recovery was led by strong buying in the banking and midcap segments, even as the benchmark indices ended marginally lower.

The metal pack came under pressure after US President Donald Trump announced plans to double tariffs on steel and aluminium imports to 50%, raising concerns of a global trade flare-up.

Among individual stocks, Mphasis fell 3% after reports suggested it may lose one of its largest clients. Auto stocks traded mixed. Hero MotoCorp declined 2% and Tata Motors dropped 1% as their May sales figures fell short of street expectations. On the other hand, Mahindra & Mahindra rose over 1% after reporting better-than-estimated monthly sales, continuing its trend of outperforming peers.

The day saw two listings — Schloss Hotels (The Leela), which ended flat near its issue price, and Aegis Vopak, which gained 3% on debut. Overall market breadth was neutral with the advance-decline ratio at 1:1, reflecting a balanced tone among investors.
