(MENAFN) Lithuania’s Leader, Gitanas Nauseda, has expressed optimism about avoiding a potential trade conflict between the US and the European Union by emphasizing the importance of discussions.

During an interview with a public broadcaster on Monday, he stated, “I really want to hope that this economic war, if we can call it that, will end with swift negotiations aimed at minimizing losses.”

Nauseda further emphasized that no party would emerge victorious in such a conflict, regardless of who initiates it.

He added, “This has been tested in the world many times throughout different periods, and it has always ended with the same result.”

The US, under Leader Donald Trump, has proposed new tariffs on EU countries, alongside Canada, Mexico, and China, triggering widespread concerns about the potential consequences of a damaging trade war.

Lithuania, a small Baltic region with a population of 2.8 million, became a member of the European Union in 2004.
