The NHL trade rumors are getting a little stale this week, but we will link to them regardless. The top news was that another freak accident will cost a player time away from the team, as Florida Panthers forward Eetu Luostarinen suffered burns while grilling. Sportsnet offered some interesting quarter mark observations on the game and top teams. And the Pittsburgh Penguins just looked like they were having some hockey fun on Wednesday, and it looked like old times, but there were some cryptic answers on Harrison Brunicke’s future.
The Live Chat last night was pretty fun. I don’t think we dragged or repeated ourselves. You guys kept the show moving at a pretty good pace. We talked about the playoffs, the Penguins’ trade strategy, and whether it might change with winning, and Sergei Murashov’s future.

I rather enjoyed your questions. PHN is not for the faint of heart or the fanboy crowd. We have never been, but we’re also happy to welcome newbies. I sense the changing Penguins fanbase is starting that renewal process, as I’ve had a few fans recently ask basic questions, admitting they’re new.
Hey, happy to help! I built PHN on a foundation of being better than the suppressed hockey coverage pervasive across the U.S., but different than fan blogs. You won’t get the pig piles, the screaming, or the generic, bland “I guess we have to cover hockey” type coverage here. So, if you’re new to the game and these parts, the PHN Report Card is your 101 class into the breakdowns of each game, and don’t be afraid to ask. Genuine questions get treated genuinely.
Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh Hockey Now: The Penguins’ practice was a lot of skills work and then 45 minutes of “Go.” After about 90 minutes, they wrapped up and we had a sense of what we’ll see Friday. Afterward, the player and the coach delivered some cryptic answers on Harrison Brunicke’s future. Here’s the practice, the lines, and a few notable moments at Penguins practice.

After practice, Philip Tomasino cleared waivers.
Also, after practice, it looked like old times. Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang didn’t leave the ice. Nor did the rookies. They were all playing some sort of game and enjoying hockey. Dan Muse lit up when we asked about it. Youthful energy is sweeping the Penguins’ locker room.
Steelers Now: Derrick Bell asks a real question–did the Steelers make a mistake trading George Pickens?
Pittsburgh Baseball Now: Danny Demilio is doing a good job continuing to grow PBN. This week’s Q&A is a heavy matter of perspective. How many bats will the Pirates add? Will Bob Nutting fight for a salary cap? The Pirates Q&A.

How ironic. The guy who most needs a salary cap is a big reason it will never exist. Not even fellow owners trust the Pirates to be straight with the money. Yes, we’ve heard many things “off the record” about MLB pushing the Pirates.

Florida Hockey Now: Another weird accident. Eetu Luostarinen was having a good ol’ day off at home. And now he’ll miss a few weeks after suffering burns on his lower body from the BBQ. Here’s the story on yet another injury and fluke accident for the Florida Panthers.
Sportsnet: Seven points of analysis on the quarter mark of the season, one of which deals with the far less dominant Atlantic Division, and another with why shots are down but goals are the same. It’s some good analysis that will affect my reporting.

Also on Sportsnet, yesterday was news was that Gavin McKenna’s stock was dropping. Today, the November edition of the 2026 NHL Draft Rankings.
Montreal Hockey Now: Reports tied the Canadiens to Nashville, and indicated the Habs gave Barry Trotz a jingle about Steve Stamkos because they needed a second-line center. Marc Dumont ices that theory, but does have a better Canadiens trade target in mind.
TSN: Brady Tkachuk is getting closer to a return for the Ottawa Senators. It looks like the bruising scorer, or the scoring bruiser, will be back next week.
New Jersey Hockey Now: Buyer’s remorse? Goaltending is getting soft in New Jersey because the Devils are overworking Jacob Markstrom. Is it time for the Devils to pull back? What’s going on with the talented New Jersey Devils?

Philly Hockey Now: While the Penguins were enjoying themselves on the ice Wednesday, coach Rick Tocchet was correcting mistakes of the past week. Will James reports, it was a much different Philadelphia Flyers practice.
Detroit Hockey Now: Daddy’s all right. Mommy’s all right. They just seem a little weird. In Detroit, things are finally taking hold, and the kids are all right. I still think Detroit and the Penguins will find themselves in a standings battle this season, so here’s the latest on the emerging Detroit Red Wings.
