Dallas Cowboys trade Micah Parsons to Packers — Lions rival and Week 1 opponent

Micah Parsons is expected to be in uniform during the Detroit Lions game in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season in 10 days.

But he will be suiting up in green and gold, not Honolulu Blue and silver.

Parsons, 26, was traded Thursday afternoon from the Dallas Cowboys to the Lions’ division rival and fellow Super Bowl contender, Green Bay Packers.

The Cowboys received two first-round picks (2026 and 2027) and three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Kenny Clark in the trade.

Parsons, who held out all of training camp with back tightness while in search of a new contract with his rookie deal expiring after the 2025 season, will reportedly sign a four-year, $188 million contract. ESPN reported the deal includes $120 million guaranteed at signing, which will make Parsons the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history.

Parsons is one of only three players to record 12-plus sacks in at least four of the past five seasons, and he could now line up across from Lions tackles Penei Sewell and Taylor Decker on Sept. 7 in Week 1 at Lambeau Field in Green Bay to open the season.

The Lions have a dire need to rush the passer outside of Aidan Hutchinson, but general manager Brad Holmes would have faced tough choices in the future if he had poured money into Parsons, with Hutchinson currently extension-eligible and more young players with potential new deals coming up soon.

The Packers visit the Cowboys in Week 4 on Sunday Night Football in what will be a must-watch game.
