LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — The Kentucky State Fair kicked off bright and early Thursday morning with the annual Commodities Breakfast.
Farmers and agriculture officials organize and host the breakfast, which is the first official event of the fair. The annual tradition celebrates the state’s agriculture industry and highlights a variety of the Kentucky’s commodities. The fresh eggs, pork and beef are provided by Kentucky farmers and producers.
Republicans and Democrats both sat down to share their morning meal, temporarily setting aside their differences to take part.
“Kentucky is still a big agricultural state, and it’s important for people to know that we have farmers here who are growing our food and making a living for their family while doing it,” U.S. Rep. Morgan McGarvey, D-Louisville, said. “We want to make sure it continues to happen.”
Agriculture leaders in the state said the fair is one of the biggest stages for one of Kentucky’s biggest economic drivers.
The fair runs through Sunday, Aug. 24. WDRB Day at the fair is Friday, Aug. 22.
