Walmart is ramping up its investment in New York with a wide-ranging plan that includes 23 store remodels, major upgrades for associates, and millions in community support. The company announced the 2025 initiative this week, highlighting its long-term commitment to modernizing retail operations and boosting local economies.

“By investing in our stores and associates, we are not only improving the shopping experience but also reinforcing our commitment to being a vital part of the community’s fabric,” said Annie Walker, Walmart’s Senior Vice President for the East Business Unit.

Store remodels coming to 23 New York locations

As part of a nationwide effort to upgrade more than 650 stores in 2025, Walmart will remodel 23 stores across New York. Planned enhancements include bold new signage, expanded departments, updated pharmacy layouts, and improvements to online order pickup and delivery.

Notable locations set for renovation include stores in Levittown, Waterloo, Fulton, Uniondale, Cicero, and Westbury. These updates follow $298 million in store improvements across New York over the past five years.

Growing careers for more than 39,000 associates

With over 39,600 employees in the state, Walmart says it is committed to creating career opportunities close to home. In the past year:

  • 22,400 hourly associates in New York received bonuses
  • 2,289 were promoted to higher-paying roles
  • 3,505 part-time workers became full-time employees

More than 75% of Walmart’s frontline managers in the state began as hourly associates. Benefits include paid time off, college degrees through Live Better U, 401(k) plans with company match, and free Walmart+ memberships.

Supporting local communities and suppliers

Walmart, the Walmart Foundation, and Sam’s Club donated $24.7 million to New York communities in fiscal year 2024. They also contributed over 13.7 million pounds of food to food banks—equal to 11.4 million meals.

In addition, Walmart spent $15.3 billion with New York-based suppliers, supporting more than 149,000 jobs statewide.

The 2025 investments align with Walmart’s strategy to serve as a retail, employment, and community leader in New York and across the country.
