Any production Trent Frederic adds will be a bonus. He was acquired for his physical play and to give the Oilers some more snarl up front.

Same goes for Max Jones, who was included in Tuesday’s trade and will make his Oilers debut against Montreal.

“He’s a player that gives us something that we don’t have – a little more speed, a little more physicality, a really simple game,” Knoblauch said of Jones. “A guy who gets in there on the forecheck and makes it a little more uncomfortable for the opposition D.”

Jones signed a two-year, $1 million AAV contract with the Bruins in the offseason. He sustained a groin injury in training camp and never got on track there.

He played just seven games for them, while spending the rest of the season with AHL Providence. He’s excited for the fresh start.

“It’s been a rollercoaster,” Jones said. “Leaving Anaheim and signing in Boston was something I was excited about. Sometimes things don’t go the way you expect, but you’ve got to roll with the punches.

“It’s been tough, but there’s a plan for everyone. I’m here now and I’m really honoured.”
