U.S. stocks finished mixed Friday, as interest rates in the bond market extended their climb ahead of next week’s jobs report.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 259.96 points on Friday, or 0.6%, to end at 42,114.40.
The S&P 500 slipped 1.74 points, or less than 0.1%, to close about flat at 5,808.12.
The Nasdaq Composite rose 103.12, or 0.6%, to finish at 18,518.61.
For the week, the Dow fell 2.7%, the S&P 500 retreated 1% and the tech-heavy Nasdaq eked out a 0.2% gain. The S&P 500 and Dow each snapped six straight weeks of gains, while the Nasdaq rose for a seventh straight week to notch its longest weekly winning streak of 2024, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
In the bond market, Treasury yields rose, as investors prepare for fresh data next week on inflation and jobs growth in the U.S. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note climbed for a sixth straight week to 4.232% on Friday, according to Dow Jones Market Data.
