ASHEVILLE – The Wall Street Parking Garage in downtown will be temporarily closed nights beginning May 8 for stairwell improvements. Here’s what to know:
When is the garage closing?
The closures will occur from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. May 8-11, and again on May 15-18. The garage will remain open from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. during this time frame, though dates are subject to change in the event of inclement weather.
Why is it closing?
Due to the nature of the improvements, according to a May 4 city news release, the garage will close during these times to all parking customers to ensure the “community’s safety.”

This maintenance comes in response to the Parking Garage Capital Improvements Facility Assessment. In fiscal year 2022, the Parking Services division in the city’s Transportation department included funding in the parking operations budget to hire professional consultants to conduct structural assessments of all city-owned garages.
The purpose of the assessment was to review needed maintenance items and budget for upcoming repairs over the next several years for each garage.
How much does parking cost?
The Wall Street garage is one of four city-owned garages. Typically, each is open for public parking 24/7 and offers hourly, daily and monthly parking.
The first hour is free, but all additional hours cost $2. Daily maximum is $20. Monthly parking for the Wall Street garage ranges from $85 to $130 a month, depending on access times.

What to do if you’re a monthly or hourly user of the Wall Street garage?
Parking Services anticipate minimal disruption to monthly parking account holders as the garage will still be open during the highest usage. Monthly parkers have been notified, said the release, but those impacted by the closures can email parking@ashevillenc.gov to request accommodations.
For hourly users, several alternate free and fee-based parking options are available through the city in the downtown area, including monthly parking garage passes, lots and street options starting at $30 per month.
