Tom Brady ‘talked through’ his retirement with ex-wife Gisele Bundchen before announcing his decision.
This marked the second time the athlete shared similar news of his career, as he previously revealed that he was stepping away from American football in February 2022, before u-turning on the decision.
Discussing the bombshell, an insider claimed that the dad-of-three spoke about his decision with the supermodel first, despite their recent divorce.
‘Tom and Gisele are on cordial terms,’ the source said, claiming that they ‘talked this through before he came to the final decision’.
They explained to Us Weekly that Gisele had been a ‘real rock’ to Tom throughout the process, and that he is ‘so grateful to everyone in his life for the support they’ve shown.
‘He couldn’t have achieved a fraction of his success without his family, friends and supporters.’
Tom posted a video on Instagram on February 1, revealing that he had decided to leave the field for good after an incredible career.
‘Good morning, guys, I’ll get to the point right away: I’m retiring for good,’ he began.
‘I think you only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year.
‘So, really, thank you guys, so much, to every single one of you, for supporting me.
‘My family, my friends, teammates, my competitors, I could go on forever, there’s too many. Thank you, guys, for letting me live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.’
Gisele was among the famous faces in the comments below, celebrating her former partner’s stint in the sport
She simply penned: ‘Wishing you only wonderful things in this new chapter of your life.’
The pair were married for 13 years after tying the knot in 2009, but announced they had split in October.
They share two children together – son Benjamin, 13, and daughter Vivienne, 12 – while Brady is also father to 15-year-old son Jack from his relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan.
