Stock market update: Nifty Auto index falls 1.0%

NEW DELHI: The Nifty Auto index closed on a negative note on Tuesday.

Shares of Samvardhana Motherson International(up 1.91 per cent), Bajaj Auto(up 0.79 per cent) and Eicher Motors(up 0.43 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack.

On the other hand, TIINDIA(down 3.29 per cent), Sona BLW Precision Forgings(down 2.84 per cent), Ashok Leyland(down 2.22 per cent), Maruti Suzuki(down 1.63 per cent) and Hero MotoCorp(down 1.57 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day.

The Nifty Auto index closed 1.0 per cent down at 13226.05.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 43.1 points at 17721.5, while the BSE Sensex stood down 220.86 points at 60286.04.

Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 19 ended in the green, while 31 closed in the red.

Shares of , , Tata Steel, YES Bank and Zomato Ltd. were among the most traded shares on the NSE. Shares of , GRP Ltd, , and Action Const. hit their fresh 52-week highs in today’s trade, while , Ltd., Vikas Proppant & Gr, and . hit their fresh 52-week lows.
